Mainstream Diabetes Nonsense!

On our local news today they had a diabetes expert on to talk about how to reduce your risk of getting type 2 diabetes. This gut was a medical doctor who works in a specialized diabetes clinic at a local hospital.

His advice? He said you should exercise more, yawn. Yeah, yeah, we're a bunch of lazy fucks who don't move enough. We all know that. Don't expect that to change anytime soon. But he continued (and it got worse). Then he says, you should eat fewer calories and to do that you should lower your fat intake.

That's it. Here is a doctor who advises people on diabetes, probably on a daily basis, and this is his advice. What's wrong with this picture? He mentioned nothing about the sacred cow of the food industry, carbs. Not one word!

Blood sugar drives insulin, carbs drive blood sugar, so the simplest, most effective thing you can do to reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes is reduce your carb intake. Period. It really is that simple.

I've seen people who have gone off their diabetes medicine simply by adopting a low carb lifestyle. Surely the good ole doc knows this approach works. But not a word about it. Either he's a well educated idiot or he's being a good boy and following the dogma of the various three letter medical associations. Either way, it just isn't right!

Health care reform? You bet. Start by getting rid of doctors who dispense bad advice.

Still Kicking. WT - 242

Sunday:

Breakfast Buffet - 4 fried eggs, scrambled egs, 4 sausage links, load of bacon

Cookout - 2 hamburgers, a couple of brats and hot dogs.

Ate poorly the evening of June 8. That was the last time. I've eaten solid low carb since then but the scale isn't moving. Oh well, I feel good so I'll keep at it, maybe tweak it here and there and let it happen. It will happen. It being fat loss.

Although I'll be drinking more diet Dr Pepper this summer because they are giving away 23 Camaros in a summer promotion and I want a chance at one. I'm also going to continue drinking my 2 cups of coffee every day.

On a side note. The Detroit Red Wings are in the Stanly Cup Finals again and looking pretty good. They are playing the Penguins again this year, who happen to be my brothers favorite team. The Wings are up 2 games to 1. Game four is tonight.

Feeling a little better today (Thursday). Hopefully the cold will be history by Saturday. As you can see I ate quite a few cheeseburgers yesterday. The scale said 245 this morning. So I ate 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef, 4 oz of cheese plus the bacon and eggs and dropped a pound. Nice!

On a side note, I've been tearing up the world of Scrabble on my Nintendo DS lately and had the weirdest win last night. Here's what happened. I went first and had a shitty set of letters so I passed, then my opponent passed. WTF? Hell with it, I passed again. So did he. Then the game was over and I won with a score of -10 to -11. I never knew that was possible. I had been playing this computer opponent a few times in a "national tournament" and had come close to winning but hadn't yet. It's not quite as sweet as beating him outright but I'll take the win anyway. The dumb fucker shouldn't have passed.

I came down with a nasty cold Monday night. I had stopped my Vitamin D because I've been getting plenty of sun. That'll teach me. Anyway, to knock the cold out quickly I've started taking massive doses of vitamin d until it's gone. I also take Umcka Coldcare which works to shorten a cold. Hopefully I'll be back to my cheerful self soon.

Another Week Begins

Monday.

9:00 - 6 sausage links, 3 fried eggs

12:00 - 6 sausage links, 3 fried eggs

3:30 - 1oz macadamia nuts, 4 small slim jims

5:00 - 8oz cheeseburger, 1oz macadamia nuts

8:30 - summer sausage, 2 string cheese

2 quarts water, 2 cups coffee, 2 diet sodas

This Friday, which is the first day of May, I'm giving up my morning coffee and all diet soda. I've toyed with the ideas before, in fact, back in 2000 when I started Atkins I stopped drinking coffee and felt good doing it. I replaced it with a quart of water in the morning, which I still have. But at some point I made the decision to add coffee back into my diet. Since coffee has been shown to raise insulin levels and keeping insulin levels stable is the basis for a low carb diet, well, it just makes sense to cut it out. In fact Atkins says to nix the caffeine.

I've been drinking 2-3 bottles of Diet Rite soda every day too and while it doesn't contain caffeine, I'm sure it keeps the sweet tooth alive. It's got to go. I'm going to clean up my diet a bit too. Less processed meat. Fewer nuts. More water.

Monday, April 27, 2009

It rained all weekend. The final tally was over 7 inches. We needed rain but jeez, that's a bit much. We laid some sod in our yard friday and it was loving the rainy weekend. Me. Not so much. I've got a perfectly good Harley sitting in the garage waiting patiently.

Mess With The Bull...

You get the horn!

So it seems that Mr. Fuckstick, the 19 year old jerk off and my 16 year old step-daughter have been sneaking around behind our backs for the better part of three weeks. It came to a head Saturday night when they decided it was time to consummate their relationship. That's right, dear daughter is so desperate for attention that she gave up her virginity to an adult male scumbag (literally) after knowing him for less than a month and never really going on a date. All the while lying through her teeth. I lost any respect I had for her. She can never get that back. Never.

Anyway, I found all this out yesterday afternoon when she woke up. I promptly took her cell phone and was flipping through her text messages, you know the ones, guys reminding her to ditch the condom wrapper and such. So I flip shut the phone and it rings. Guess who. That's right, said scumbag is making a follow up call. He's such a sweet guy. So I tell him he can't see her and he says we have to talk and I should drive to where he is and we'll talk. You betcha. I'm there.

So I show up. I tell him he can't see my daughter. Period. Then he gets a bright idea. He decides he is going to teach dad a lesson and he swings and hits me in the jaw. Bam. It's on. Long story short. I whipped his ass. In fact he later posted on his online profile that "he got his shit rocked". There was blood (his) and everything. Of course the cops showed up and since he obviously got the worse end of the deal they decided they would charge me with some sort of assault. The officer was decent and understanding of my situation and didn't arrest me but he said he will file a charge based on his injuries later this week or so.

So now it's up to the lawyers and courts. But I still say, he can't date my daughter! Of course she is so totally grounded for so long that she'll be in Depends by the time they can get together again. And based on his M.O. he likes them young. Problem solved.

Anyway, back to menus soon.

10:45 - 8oz cheeseburger, low carb cole slaw, coc oil
4:00 - egg salad

Workout: chest-tricep

Thursday:

8;15 - 4 fried eggs, ground sausage, coc oil
1:45 - 8oz cheeseburger, low carb cole slaw, coc oil
4:00 - 2oz sharp cheddar cheese
6:30 - dinner at Old Chicago Restaurant - guacamole burger (no bun), side salad. This was a free meal off a limited menu because the restaurant is just opening and they are training the staff. My niece is working there so she invited us to come. It's a nice restaurant. Once I was there and looking at the menu, I remembered we ate at one last summer when we were vacationing in Duluth, which is a great vacation spot by the way. I wish I wasn't low carbing last night. I would have had a calzone. That's what I had last summer and they are fucking great! Anyway, I was still pretty hungry when I left there and had to eat once I returned home.

7:45 - 3 fried eggs, ground sausage

3 quarts water
1 stick sugar free gum

Feels Pretty Good!

That's right. After one A.R.T. treatment my plantar fasciitis infested foot feels much, much better. I don't know why the mainstream medical establishment doesn't know about this stuff. It flat out works. Works wonders in fact.

The Doc told me to stop using the foot brace. She said it would work against what she just did to my foot. So last night, for the first time in quite a while, I slept without it. Guess what. I woke up this morning and my foot felt almost good as new. It boggles my mind.

I have another appointment early next week and they gave me some stretches to do. The stretches are active isolated stretches. Instead of holding a stretch for 15-30 seconds like most people recommend, you hold it for 2 seconds, release and hold again for 2 seconds and on and on like that until you reach the prescribed amount. I've heard about this before and once you read the literature it makes sense.

It amazes me just how "stuck in the dark ages" most of the mainstream is. No matter if it's nutrition, injury rehab or just how and when to stretch, the mainstream is usually just flat out wrong. It makes you wonder...

Three Posts in One Day

Hey, that's something new.

So I'm sitting here watching Blind Date (I love that show) and the UPS guy drops off a Fedex letter. That's right. UPS delivered a Fedex letter. Did I miss news of the merger?

Active Release Technique

Sounds dirty doesn't it? It's not. It's a soft tissue manipulation somewhat like a deep massage. You can check out the details here. Let me just say, I had amazing results with it a few years ago with a terrible shoulder mobility issue I was having. At night my arms would go numb and it was super uncomfortable when I did bench presses. It sucked! Really sucked!! So I went to a chiropractor who was ART certified and no shit, after 1 visit my symptoms were 80% better. I was amazed. One more visit was all it took to get me back to normal.

Now I get to see what ART can do for plantar fasciitis. I've been bothered by it in my left foot for a few months now and it's not much fun. I dealt with a similar issue in my other foot a few years back and it took a year and a half before it went away. I didn't seek treatment then or wear a splint at night and I kept aggravating it while I was kickboxing, but a year and a half... Come on! So this time I'm taking measures to combat it. I've been wearing a foot splint at night for a month or so and it lessens the pain when I get up in the morning. But it still hurts like hell after I walk the dog or stand on it for an extended length of time. So now it's time to see if ART can do for me now what it did for me then. My appointment is Thursday.

One Little Fuck Up...

No I'm not talking about one of my kids. I'm talking about the one Reese's Peanut Butter Cup I devoured after dinner last night. Trust me, it could have been worse. 18 carbs in one little candy. To help blunt the surge of insulin that was sure to come, I ate a home made protein bar with it. These protein bars have 2 TB natural peanut butter and 2-4 TB heavy cream in them (along with protein powder) so they are loaded with fat and that should lessen the damage a little. None the less, I can't do that again. There will be plenty of time to indulge in crap like that once I'm at a lower body fat.

In fact, my plan of attack is this (I've changed it a bit from the original plan): Do a basic Atkins induction until my body fat gets lower. Then switch to more of a cyclical ketogenic diet, which means eating low carb 5-6 days and eating carbs one day (or just one meal, we'll see how it goes). But for now I've got to stick to the plan. Very low carb, few veggies, mostly meat, eggs and a little cheese along with a post-workout protein shake. Simple and it works.

Tuesday's Menu:

- 4 fried eggs, 3 sausage patties, 1 tb coc oil
- Hardees low carb Monster thickburger, 1 tb coc oil
- crackslaw, low carb coleslaw, 1 tb coc oil
- protein bar, Reeses PB egg, 2 hard boiled eggs

3 quarts water
1 stick gum

************************************************************************************

I'm often asked what I feed my dogs. Well not really but it works for this story. So to answer that often asked question... My dogs eat low carb too. How's this for appetizing?

That's right. A scrumptious turkey neck, chicken liver and ground turkey marinaded in a tablespoon of fish oil. All served raw. Wipe the drool off your chin and click here for more information.

On a note from the homefront. My 16 year old step-daughter decides she wants to date a 19 year old guy (Man!).

"He's so nice. You have to meet him."

"He's a grown man!"

"But, but..."

"No but's. He's too old. End of story."

What kind of guy wants to date a high school girl? Wait, dumb question. It's like Star Trek. The dream to go where no man has gone before...

It's not going to happen on my watch! No adult man is going to date my teenage daughter! Try it and see what happens. We'll have a pool to guess how long you stay in the hospital.

Back to Menus...

First day back on track after a weekend carb binge.

-3 sausage patties, 4 fried eggs
-crackslaw
-2oz cheddar cheese
-diced chicken breast in romaine lettuce salad, shredded cheddar, caesar dressing

2 quarts water

Today I am dealing with a headache from hell. I get one every time I go off low carb and then get back on. It's my body getting back to burning fat instead of sugar. You'd think I'd learn my lesson and just stay on low carb.

Today's Plan:

-3 sausage patties, 4 fried eggs, coconut oil
-Low carb Thickburger from Hardees, coconut oil
-8oz cheeseburger, coconut oil

3 quarts water

That's right, bring on the saturated fat. I've got to get back to burning the fat.

Inferior organisms succumb and perish or are enslaved. Superior organisms survive, propagate, and possess.” — DARWIN.

One of the best books I've read over the years is Might Is Right by Ragnar Redbeard (who might have been Jack London). This book is pretty harsh and the sheeple should (and rightly do) stay far, far away from it. But it speaks to some, the Wolves Among the Sheep, and it's message is crystal clear and cannot be denied.

It seems whenever I let myself believe that life is all warm and fuzzy, reality steps in and smacks me in the face. Wake up! You know better!

So I'm re-visiting the book and will occasionally share some of it with you. For the weak, you better go elsewhere. For the strong, off we go...

THE VICTOR GETS THE GOLD

Virtue is rewarded in this world, remember. Natural law makes no false judgments. Its decisions are true and just, even when dreadful. The victor gets the gold and the land every time. He, also, gets the fairest maidens, the glory tributes. And — why should it be otherwise? Why should the delights of life go to failures and cowards? Why should the spoils of battle belong to the unwarlike? That would be insanity, utterly unnatural and immoral.

ALL ELSE IS ERROR

The natural world is a world of war; the natural man is a warrior; the natural law is tooth and claw. All else is error. A condition of combat everywhere exists. We are born into perpetual conflict. It is our inheritance, even as it was the heritage of previous generations. This ‘condition of combat’ may be disguised with the holy phrases of St. Francis, or the soft deceitful doctrines of a Kropotkin or Tolstoi, but it cannot be eventually evaded by any human being or any tribe of human beings. It is there and it stays there, and each man (whether he will or not) has to reckon with it. It rules all things; it governs all things; it reigns over all things and it decides all who imagine policemanized populations, internationally regulated tranquility, and State organized industrialism so joyful, blessed and divine.

Behold the crucifix, what does it symbolize? Pallid incompetence hanging on a tree.

Lo, I hear the fighters coming
Over hill and dale and plain.
With battle cry of ages
In a Rebel world again.

Who’d forge their swords to plow-shares.
Shall sweat in bitter yokes.
The free-born race and fearless
Must deal out battle strokes.

In the wars of the Great Cæsar, and Grim Hannibal, in the times of Belzchazzar, the Pharaohs and all; the days of Rienzi and Roland the Bold; all banners were waving for women and gold.

It is might against might, remember, by land and sea, man against man, money against money, brains against brains, and — everything to the winner.

Sad Day...

I had to make the most difficult decision of my life yesterday. I put down my 13 1/2 year old German Shepherd Freya. Luckily she was herself and vibrant until the last 24 hours despite her age and the suffering was short. Even as late as last week she was still chasing tennis balls.

I sit here going through my pictures of her and the sense of loss is so great. The memories come flooding back. The tears flow. The house seems so empty. Nothing will be the same. She is missed.

Another 2lbs Gone.

Made the two pound mark last week. I've set that as my weekly goal.

Yesterdays menu:
-4 scrambled eggs with 2 hot dogs cut up and a little shredded cheddar cheese, coconut oil
-Hardee's low carb Monster Thickburger
-crackslaw, coconut oil

Todays Plan:
-4 fried eggs, ground sausage, coconut oil
-crackslaw
-8oz cheesburger, ranch dressing

I wont post the previous days menus. They are very similar except I ate 4 TB of natural peanut butter and a handful of pork rinds tuesday night after dinner. I was really bored.

The weather has taken a turn for the worse. Back to cold cloudy conditions. This after some 60-70 degree days. I changed the oil in the Harley, added some new parts and was all set to continue this and then... BAM! Back to reality. It's not June yet.

My German Shepherd Freya is sick today. She is bloated and listless. She can barely stand up and when she does she doesn't move very far. I have an appointment at the vet this afternoon. I hope it's nothing major. She is almost 14 years old and has fatty tumors on her side by her shoulders. The reality is she has lived a good life, been a great companion and when her time comes she will be greatly missed. I just hope now is not that time.

Vitamins and Pepperoni Pizza.

I thought I'd list the supplements I'm currently taking.

Morning:
Men's Multivitamin
Vitamin C
Vitamin D3
Chromium Picolinate
Krill oil

Before bed:
ZMA

Here's Friday's menu plan:
-ground sausage, 3 fried eggs, coconut oil
-pork chop, salad with caesar dressing, coconut oil
-low carb pepperoni pizza, coconut oil

Friday is typically pizza night here. I have a low carb version that just rocks. I skipped it last week in favor of just meat and the scale moved the right way. I'm kind of hesitant to add it back in my menu since it has pizza sauce and lots of cheese.

OK, I've just talked myself out of it. I'm going to have a 8oz cheeseburger and salad instead. I'll start adding in these types of recipes/foods down the road. For now I've got to stick with whats working. I'm shooting for at least another 2lb loss this week.

Mid Day Update: Went to Wendy's for lunch today. Had a triple, no bun and a side salad with ranch. Dinner will now be a leftover pork chop (called Iowa Chop around here), maybe a small salad and sf jello.

Thursday

Another great day yesterday. The beauty of being in ketosis is the appetite suppression. It's hard to overeat when you're just not hungry. What a great feeling!

Today's menu:

-scrambled sausage, 3 fried eggs
-ribeye steak, 2 hard boiled eggs
-leftover pork chop, salad with caesar dressing.

IHOP on St. Patrick's Day? No Problem!!

So I told my kids they could pick the place to eat lunch on Tuesday. Of course they picked IHOP. Ugh! I love my chicken fried steak and pancakes. Damn, I've eaten a lot of those meals in my time. But I've been doing a super job staying on my diet the past week and a half and wasn't going to blow it just because I was surrounded by temptation. So I had a grilled chicken casear salad, one of my kids sausage links and some of her scrambled eggs. Piece of cake. Not literally. You know what I mean...

On a side note, the waitress had a pretty nasty cold and we had to double up on the hand sanitizer once we left there. Yikes. Speaking of colds, we have pretty much been a cold-free household this winter. Which hasn't been the case in previous years. I chalk it up to a good vitamin D regimen. Since last November I've been taking 6-8000 units of D3 and I found a vitamin D3 liquid that I've been giving the kids. Needless to say, we'll be doing this next winter too.

For more vitamin D info, Jimmy Moore has a good post on Vitamin D here and check out The Vitamin D Council's Website.

This is shaping up to be another great week. I'm thinking I could drop 3lbs this week. We'll see.

Here are the menus so far:

Monday:
-3 sausage patties, 3 fried eggs, 1TB coc. oil
-BK double stacker, side salad with ranch dressing
-a little steak, 2oz cheese, 1TB coc oil
-grilled chicken (3 thighs, 1 leg)

Tuesday:
-3 sausage patties, 3 fried eggs, 1TB coc oil
-IHOP chicken caesar salad (no croutons, of course), 1 sausage link, scrambled eggs
-thick cut pork chop, ranch dressing, sf jello, 1TB coc oil

Today's plan:
-ground sausage, 3 fried eggs, 1TB coc oil
-leftover grilled chicken, 1TB coc oil
-gr beef and sauteed cabbage or leftover pork chop

Very Good Weekend!

Here was my weekend menu:

Saturday:
-6 sausage links, 3 scrambled eggs, shredded cheese
-Burger King- double Bk Stacker, no bun of course, side salad with ranch dressing
-18oz sirloin steak, salad with ranch

Sunday:
-3 sausage patties, 3 fried eggs
-1 oz cheese, 12oz ribeye
-steak in a salad with caesar dressing
-beef jerky, 3oz cheddar cheese

There you have it. A great low carb menu. I lost 2lbs last week and hope to duplicate that this week.

Today's plan:
-3 sausage patties, 3 fried eggs
-Burger King- low carb triple stacker, side salad with ranch
-protein shake
-grilled chicken legs/thighs, steamed broc/caul.

That's right. It's finally grilling weather. With any luck I'll be firing up the Harley tomorrow too.

So it's spring break week and I told my kids we will go out for lunch every day this week. We have a couple of their friends here today so we'll go to a Burger King with a play area. I hope to mostly avoid the fast food joints this week but today is an exeption.

Click. Click. Click.

So, as I mentioned before I have a new German Shepherd puppy. Now it's been a long long time since my other German Shepherd was a puppy (13 years) and I am pretty rusty when it comes to raising a puppy (we do have a three year old Cavachon but I didn't really do much with her as puppy). Anyway, I've been brushing up on dog training and have decided to start clicker training. I hadn't used it with my oldest dog, Freya, but she had such a high prey drive that it was easy to use that drive in training.

Young puppy Loki doesn't have that intense prey drive but he goes absolutely nuts over a small piece of hot dog. Thanks Oscar Mayer. So that's the route I'm going to take. I'm heading to Petco today to pick one up. I'll post some videos to my youtube channel to show how we are progressing. And to show that I don't play favorites, I'm going to do some clicker training with the cavachon too.

On to the eats. Ate according to plan yesterday. I'm not sure about the carb counts since I ate at HuHot last night. I'm guessing it was no more than 30 grams though. I have to say I don't really enjoy eating out at places who don't list their carb counts. Are they hiding something?

Today's plan:

-3 scrambled eggs, small amount shredded cheese, 6 sausage links
-1/2 lb cheeseburger
-protein shake
-romaine salad with turkey breast, cheese and caesar dressing
-protein shake

Weigh in day is tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Khakis??

Ate according to plan yesterday, including two protein shakes. 20 carbs.

Today's plan:

-3 fried eggs, 2 sausage patties
-protein shakes
-1/2lb cheeseburger, side salad with caesar dressing
-protein shake
-dinner at HuHot Mongolian Grill, I'll have mostly beef and broccoli with sesame oil

Time is short so I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Fight Club:

"You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis."

Jack Frost!

Yes, it's c-c-c-cold here today. Wind chills around zero. The wind was howling all night long. We have an ash tree out back that has a pretty nasty split and it has definitely gotten worse. This wind has it creaking pretty bad. I guess we'll have to cut it down before it splits completely and comes crashing down in our backyard.

Ate according to plan yesterday(minus the protein shakes). Carbs were right at 20 grams.

Today's menu plan:

-protein shake
-3 fried eggs, 3 sausage patties
-1/2lb cheeseburger
-protein shake
-crack slaw
-protein shake

The kids conferences went well. I learned my kids are super bright and really good readers. No surprises there.

Good ole' pharmaceutical drug companies. You can't trust them. I certainly don't! Here's yet another example of how it's all just smoke and mirrors. We are being fed a huge load of bullshit. Medicate this. Medicate that. Anything for a buck I guess. It's a sad, sad statement on mankind.

The Biggest Loser.

Egads! Am I the only one who hates the way The Biggest Loser tries to keep you in suspense before cutting to a commercial? I am so grateful I have a DVR and don't have to play that game. That show could easily be cut down to 1 hour and we wouldn't be losing anything. I enjoy it but it's definitely NOT worth 2 hours of my life every week.

So, I stayed on plan yesterday and ended up eating 15 carbs. I didn't have any of the protein shakes. I include them in case I'm hungry between meals. On a bigger note, I had no diet soda yesterday. That's right, none, zilch, nada. For me that's huge. I've been known to suck down 2 or 3 bottles of Diet Rite a day. Although I'll admit that by evening time they sure didn't taste as good they did earlier in the day. So I decided to ditch most of the soda and crank up the water, which I had drank 3 quarts of yesterday.

Menu plan for today:

breakfast-3 fried eggs, 3 sausage patties
lunch-1/2 lb cheeseburger, small salad with caesar dressing
snack-protein shake
dinner-scrambled hamburger in broccoli slaw (also known as crack slaw, yum!)
snack-protein shake

Gotta go. Kids have conferences tonight.

Kenny Powers!

Is anyone else laughing their ass off when they watch "East Bound and Down" on HBO? That fucking Kenny Powers is hilarious! Now I watch a bit of TV, but there are really very few shows I enjoy, the same with movies, but this show is funny. You know what I hate, I hate those crime shows like "Law & Order". How fucking stupid are those criminals on that show. They always cave in like little pussies when the cops confront them with their theories. Who are the stupid people who watch these stupid shows?

Now I know there are lots of stupid criminals out there but they are the ones knocking over convenience stores and such, not masterminding some complex criminal operation. Just watch "COPS" sometime. Anyway, I could go on and on about the things I find wrong with the mainstream media, in fact the whole popular culture here in America, (can you say SHEEPLE?) but I'll save that rant for another time.

Ugh! I really like the idea of more evening daylight but was it ever hard to get out of bed this morning. I'm kind of a fanatic when it comes to sleep. My wife is always chiding me for being obsessed with sleep. Hey, I like my sleep. Anyway, with the time changing, I'm going to take this week off from weight lifting to allow my body to adjust to the change.

So I made Jimmy Moore's list of new low carb blogs. I've been enjoying his blog for quite some time. I really enjoy his podcasts. I often listen to them while I lift weights. I'm really looking forward to his upcoming interview with Jeff Volek. I read TNT Diet and highly recommend it. I think support is huge in losing weight, especially since it's a long process, and Jimmy provides a good service to other low carb dieters.

My Menu Plan today is:

breakfast-3 fried eggs, 2 sausage patties
lunch-8oz cheeseburger patty, small salad with caesar dressing
snack-protein shake
dinner-2 fried pork chops mashed cauliflower
snack-protein shake

On a final note, I have my first blog stalker(follower) and it appears he is pretty gay. While I am definitely not gay, I say to each his own and welcome to my world.

Another Spring Like Day.

I must go to Hardees too often. The girl working the drive up window recognized me by my voice and order today. I always get a low carb Monster Thickburger. Damn they're good.

Thursday, March 5, 2009

It's Been Awhile.

I'm still here. Low carbing and lifting weights.

I've had some major cravings popping up the past two weeks. I think I'm going to take today as a free day and just be done with it. Then get back on track and hit it hot and heavy after that.

I got a new German Shepherd puppy named Loki. Wow, I'd forgotten what a handful puppies can be.

UPDATE: I decided to not have a free day today. Especially since I've cheated twice in the past week. Ugh. Anyway, instead I will indulge in some legal lower carb food. So for lunch today I went to HuHot Mongolian grill and loaded up on beef and broccoli. It was good. I also bought some low carb no sugar added ice cream bars and will have one or two today.

I feel much better about this decision. Cheating just isn't worth it. It can easily get out of control and will only keep me from my ultimate goal of getting lean and ripped.

On a side note, it's 60 degrees here in Iowa today. Yeehaaww! Feels like spring.

Thor's Day (Yes that's where we get the name)

Had a good weight lifting session today. Worked my chest/triceps.

So, here we are in the deep of winter, there's a foot of snow on the ground and the temperature is barely above zero. At times it's hard to feel motivated. I am so looking forward to the warm weather ahead.

At the beginning of the year I decided I would do a 20 week get in shape challenge. The 20th week ending on Memorial Day weekend. The unofficial start to summer. I want to be in no shirt shape by then. So far I am in the 4th week and my results haven't been exactly stellar. To reach my goal, I figure I need to be 20lbs down by the half way mark and 40lbs down by the end. I need to knuckle down and dial it in to get there. Half way measures provide half way results.

Damn Casino Buffet...

Had one slip up friday night. I had eaten clean all day and then I went to the casino buffet and had a lovely big piece of prime rib, everything is good so far, then for some stupid reason I decide to peruse the dessert cart. Bam! Found a piece of almond joy cream pie. Bam! Found another piece. Bam! Don't worry it'll end soon, after all I was seriously stuffed after eating the prime rib. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. Bam! I found a brownie.

Since then I've eaten clean. I don't have menus from the weekend but here's Monday's menu:

I'm giving up coconut oil for a while. I can't help but believe that coconut oil, being a MCT oil will interfere with my body burning my bodyfat. What I mean is my body can be using body fat for fuel and when I take some coconut oil my body will stop burning body fat because coconut oil doesn't need to be metabolized but is immediately used for energy. So my body should stop burning body fat while it's using coconut oil for energy. It's a priority thing. Does this make sense? This assumes I'm in ketosis, which I am. So I'm going to cut it out and see what happens.

Survived the weekend

I ate clean over the weekend. Besides almost beating my brother in law's ass, (he's a whiny little bitch) the weekend went well.

Menu today:

8:30
3 eggs, 2 sausage patties, scrambled sausage--2c

1:30
2oz cheddar cheese--2c
1/2 lb hamburger with 1 slice pepperjack cheese--1c

3:50
Protein shake--3c

6:15

Bacon 8 thick cut slices--0c
4 eggs--3c

Total carbs--11
Estimated calories--2950
Estimated protein--190

Also had 2 TB coconut oil and 1 TB fish oil (counted in the total calories). I drank 3 quarts of water, 2 cups of coffee and 1 diet Coke.

Overall a pretty good day. Ate a few more calories than I'd like but kept the carbs low. I'll watch the calories a little better tomorrow and shoot for the 2500 range.

Marking my Spot (lift's leg)

Gonna start my own little blog to document how I go from being out of shape to ripped and shredded. Stay tuned. It's going to be one helluva ride!

The Basics.
Six foot tall male. Started out in 2000 at 297 lbs. Went on the Atkins diet and lost 110lbs over the next 2 years. Over the past 6 years I've gained about 60 of that back. Today I top the scale at 252 lbs and am starting a journey to get down to a lean, ripped 185 or whatever the scale ends up at. As long as I'm lean and ripped I don't care what the scale reads.

To do this I will be eating low carb, lifting weights and doing high intensity interval training. When I get closer to goal I will make some changes and probably start some sort of cyclical ketogenic diet.

I've been at induction level carbs since the beginning of the year and feel my body is well adjusted to using fat as fuel. So next week I will start counting my calories and we'll get the ball rolling.

While the "official" blog roll out isn't until this Monday I'm going to start posting my meals today.

8:20
3 eggs (fried in butter - all my eggs will be cooked in butter)--2c
4 oz cooked suasage--0c

1:00
1/2 c cubed turkey breast in salad with shredded cheese and 3 tb caesar dressing--4c
I don't count the carbs in my lc veggies. It wasn't eating too many of those that made me fat.

5:30
5 pork cutlets--0c
2 pieces low carb pizza--7c
I used this recipe with different toppings

In addition, today I've had 2 TB coconut oil and 1 TB fish oil. As well as my vitamins, which I'll list someday.

Total carb count=13

I have a family get together over the weekend and need to get busy making my low carb food to take along. I'm making meatballs to take. Along with those I'll bring meat sticks, cheese, protein shakes, Just the Cheese chips, almonds/mac nuts and pork rinds. Not the best, but it should keep me from eating a bunch of brownies and other junk.

On a side note, it was -34 last night. That's air temp, not wind chill. It set an all time record low. Brrr.
